ACT Car Recyclers are proud to contribute to various community projects and activities when time and resources are available.
Recently some of these these have included; supporting the local film industry through provision of damaged vehicles for a simulated crash scene for a local feature film in 2006, and provision of end life vehicles to be used as 'jump overs' for the NTBA Australian Mountain Bike Championships in Canberra in 2007. Most recently a further community project has involved construction and supply of a sculptural piece for use as an example of unusual recycling of a motor vehicle, and is the concept of staff at the
Canberra Environment and Sustainability Resource Centre.
This living sculpture, entitled "When the Oil Runs Out..." was fabricated out of a popular make of used vehicle and re-crafted stainless steel sinks by staff and associates at ACT Car Recyclers. This end of life vehicle was then decorated, filled with earth and planted with a variety of brightly flowering botanicals by the dedicated team at the CESRC.
It provides an eyecatching installation for the forecourt of the CESRC, and is a fun artwork which may inspire imagination and provide insight into the unlimited possibilities for the recycling of our familiar material surrounds.
It is great to work with a team which is prepared to give time outside work hours to bring such projects to fruition, and we would like to provide thanks to staff, friends, and all those who provided their time and talents to participate in these projects.
